The Mongol Rally, Cool Earth, and The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America
“What the HELL are you thinking?”
That’s the general reaction we at The Nerdventurists get when revealing our crazy plan to spend a month in a car while driving across Europe and Asia. And it’s a perfectly normal reaction. We’re just not perfectly normal people. What the hell are we doing then? We’re taking part in The Mongol Rally!
The Mongol Rally is an organized adventure that spans 10,000 miles from London, England to Ulan Ude, Russia. There is no set course. Just a finish line. And we're saving the world along the way.
50% of what you donate to us will go to two different charities. As part of the Mongol Rally rules, we must raise money for charity. They have their official charity, and in addition we can choose another charity to support. Sora has Crohn’s Disease, which has given planning this adventure a new perspective and set of challenges. However, none of us believe that chronic illness should stop anyone from traveling or doing the “crazy” thing, and so we are very happy to have the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America as our second charity.
So who are The Nerdventurists? We’re three girls and a mustache who happen to be mega nerds, epic travelers, (and a mustache). We hum the Doctor Who theme while playing Assassin’s Creed and Dragon Age. The Mustache wiggles. We draw and read comic books, attend and panel at conventions around the world, and interact with the geek community online with thousands of followers. The Mustache travels around the world doing mustachey things. Maartje does things underwater. We’re out to prove that not only can a group of ladies hit the road for an adventure of a lifetime, but that not all geeks hide away in basements 24/7 (not that there’s anything wrong with that, basements are cozy). The Mustache is coming along because we love mustaches.
We’re celebrating geekdom, literature, and adventure as The Nerdventurists. Our car will be covered in quotes from favorite books, chosen by our supporters, and we’ll be interacting with our followers all the way to Ulan Ude.
